The Integration of Indigenous Ways of Knowing in Homeschooling

 

The purpose of this virtual workshop is to introduce the integration of Indigenous Ways of Knowing in the context of Homeschooling. The presenter will provide an overview of Indigenous Education from an Indigenous lens and the essential curriculum elements and methods that can be incorporated at the K-12 level. This workshop will draw links to the National Centre for Collaboration on Indigenous Education (NCCIE) website and the wealth of resources, materials, lessons, activities, videos, stories, books, and articles the conference participants can use in their day-to-day practice. NCCIE is a national project between First Nations University of Canada and Trent University. 

Dr. Herman Michell has been involved in education since the early 1990s with a focus on the integration of Indigenous Ways of Knowing at all levels of the education system. Dr. Michell is Woodlands Cree, originally from Treaty 10 territory in northern Manitoba, the Barren Lands First Nation. He is a university educator, researcher, consultant, and author of numerous books and articles that focus on Indigenous knowledge and land-based education. Dr. Michell is currently a consultant for the Prince Albert Grand Council in Saskatchewan.
