Margaret Mattess, Principal of Eugene Joseph Elementary School located in the Tl’azt’en Nation in northern British Columbia, discusses her school’s approach to teaching the Indigenous language. Margaret discusses the school’s aim – to embed language and culture in everyday classroom learning and through on-the-land activities such as rabbit snaring and ice fishing in the winter. The school is K-5; even the support staff at the school are learning the language.
