I am nehiyaw (Plains Cree) from the Treaty Six territory of Waterhen Lake First Nation. I currently live in Saskatoon with my daughter and son, and remain connected to my community, relations, and Cree cultural traditions. I received a B.A. undergraduate degree in Honours English and a M.Ed. in Educational Foundations from the University of Saskatchewan. Since my convocation, I have started my own consulting business, Free the Spirit Consulting, and contracted with the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies as a facilitator for adult programs in Saskatchewan’s First Nations communities. I believe that it is important to validate and include Indigenous world-views, experiences, and stories in anything we do, not only with our First Nations people and communities, but all of Canadian society.
