During NCCIE’s first year, First Nations University of Canada, in collaboration with Trent University, established an Oversight Committee comprised of faculty and staff, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous, from the Chanie Wenjack School for Indigenous Studies and Trent’s Faculty of Education. Together, they provided guidance during the Centre’s first year.

During the following years of the project, NCCIE’s Oversight Committee has been comprised of both Trent and First Nations University faculty and staff. In addition, various initiatives for the Centre’s second and third years have been guided by the Elders Council at First Nations University, kêhtê-ayak.
