Dale Hunt, Academic Advisor at Vancouver Island University (VIU), Nanaimo, British Columbia, discusses the creation of the Kwak’wala Language Group. The Kwak’wala Language Group is open to everyone (both Indigenous and non-Indigenous learners and speakers), gathering and learning the Kwak’wala language through cultural teachings, history, and stories. Dale discusses how bringing an Indigenous language group to VIU increases Indigenous language awareness and advances reconciliation commitments and support on campus.
